The end of June is almost here and our first heat wave was one for the record books. Just wow, almost 100 degrees inland, and a balmy 90 degrees plus on the coast. I have been busy tending to my garden, keeping it watered and checking its progress. I am quite happy with it so far. Aside from the hot winds blowing the plants today, I think we will have quite a bounty this year.
BeymArt News
My graphic design skills have not been put to rest yet. I continue as webmaster for the Garden State Watercolor Society. www.gswcs.org. Also as a freelance project, I recently completed a new redesigned site for NJ Watercolor Society www.NJWatercolor.org.
The lovely ladies in my group of women printmakers from Ocean County Artist Guild had an exhibit at the Lavalette Library in April. It was a beautiful showing of fine art lino-cut prints by these empowered women who sure know how to use sharp tools. We meet every Tuesday and often have a lively time discussing current events, art news, music and more. We are now discussing a theme for our upcoming exhibit in November at the Guild.
Ocean County Plein Air
Is it too hot for Plein Air? I have coordinated a couple of Plein Air Sessions with the Ocean County Plein Air Group. One took place in April at Double Trouble State Park, and the other happened this month at my local park, John C Bartlett Park, also known as Berkeley Island Park. Only a small number of artists attended to paint, but I appreciate their presence and I'm happy we had good weather on both occasions. Painting outdoors encourages spontaneity and helps us focus less on the finer details. Additionally, being outside on a beautiful day is truly enjoyable. I hope to plan another outdoor painting event in July.
Senior Art Exhibit
My submission into the Senior Art Exhibit for Ocean County is a painting I did a few years back that shows the reflections on the D& R Canal in Morrisville, PA. I feel strongly that this is one of my better pieces. While I did not receive any awards this year, I was happy to be exhibiting my work among so many talented artists in Ocean County.
House Portraits
My favorite real estate agent has been consistently sending me requests for house portraits, keeping me occupied. Thnkfully, this has turned into a regular occurrence, with a few requests coming in each month. While I am open to taking on more, I am cautious about losing my motivation to explore and create new paintings on diverse themes. It is important to me to be continually inspired by fresh ideas and challenges.
