A look back and forward: New Year, Positive Outlook!

Clara Sue, BeymArt

As the new year starts, I am staying creative, keeping busy, and maintaining a positive attitude. This year presents a lot of uncertainty and disruption that we as a nation face daily. I hope everyone's lives stay healthy, normal, uninterrupted, and peaceful. I am grateful to my husband and family for continuing in their support of my creative endeavors.

Last year was particularly busy, especially towards the end! I continued with my house portraits, and am thankful for the work. Preparing for two consecutive solo exhibits kept me busy though the fall months. , First in October, at Small World Cafe in Princeton, a collection of 13 paintings was showcased, featuring a mix of prints, watercolors, and collages. Following that, in November, there was an impromptu solo exhibit titled Pieces of Nature: Flora and Fauna at the Ocean County Artist Guild in Island Heights. This event featured 26 pieces, including prints, collages, and watercolors, filling the gallery. The opening was successful and well-attended, much to the appreciation of the Guild and my family. I sold 8 pieces and was delighted to see old friends and fellow artists present. The exhibit can be seen virtually on my Youtube Channel. Pieces of Nature: Flora and Fauna

2025 Exhibit will be at the Lacey Twp Library

In February, my artwork will be displayed at the Lacey Library in Lacey Twp. This exhibit will resemble the previous one but will include some new pieces. Pieces of Nature will showcase scenes from Ocean County seen in nature.

Trash into Treasure, Collage Making and Printmaking

I am currently delving deeper into my torn paper collages and prints. Printmaking presents some challenges and takes me back to my early linocut days in college. I enjoy the process, working with my hands and the tools and the element of surprise while hand pulling the prints.

Creating collages is a way for me to repurpose my older watercolors and practice works. I find joy in assembling and constructing mosaic-like textured art, similar to quilt making. My printmaking works also contribute to these pieces, serving as enhancements and elements of the composition.

I will be teaching a workshop on this technique in Tuckerton at PineShores Art Association next week.
